Crown Reductions

With Crown Reduction we reduce a certain percentage of the overall size of the crown by removing the ends of branches evenly throughout the crown using specific, target pruning cuts, leaving a balanced and maintained shape. It is a complete crown reduction not just a reduction in height with no regard to side branches.

Crown Thin

A crown thin involves the removal of a proportion of secondary branches to produce a uniform branch structure without altering the size or shape of the tree. This improves light levels and shading. This also reduces the resistance of wind and reduces the loading upon the limbs of the tree. An even amount should be taken from the centre of the tree and from the tips of the branches. Just removing branches from the centre will cause abnormal loading on the thinned areas.

Crown Lift

Crown lifting is the removal of the lowest branches or sections of the lowest branches to give a uniform height from ground level. Common reasons for crown lifting are to bring more light and give access for vehicles. In the UK common highways practice dictates clearance for vehicles of 5.5 meters and 3 meters for pedestrians.

Felling

Felling is the complete dismantling of a tree. The stump will be left as close to the ground as possible, but will be above soil level. This can either be using modern roping techniques and in some cases using a large crane to lift away sections of the tree.

Coppicing

Coppicing is the art of cutting trees and shrubs to ground level or a chosen level allowing vigorous regrowth for a sustainable supply of timber. Not all tree species are able to be coppiced.

Fruit Tree Pruning

Without training and pruning fruit trees will not develop proper shape, form and yeild. Properly trained and pruned trees will yield high quality fruit much earlier in their lives and live significantly longer.

Formative Pruning

Pruning during the early years of a trees growth will establish a sound structure or desired form and/or correct defects or weaknesses.

Pollard

This is the removal of all branches from the trunk to leave a standing pole or frame work stand. Re-pollarding is the removal of all new growth on an existing pollard tree. Not all tree species are able to be pollard with success.

Hedges

We cater for reducing the height and/or width, as well as cyclic trimming to retain shape and desisty

Removal of Deadwood

This procedure consists of the removal of deadwood from the canopy at the tree, either the major (larger), or all the deadwood in the tree.

Air Spading

Air Spading is a specialist state of the art piece of equipment that uses compressed air to remove dirt from a given area whilst leaving all the tree roots undamaged. This helps to aliviated soil compaction around the root and is also useful in removing contaminated soil without damaging the roots.

Stump Grinding

The stump will be ground into chips with a specialised machine to a maximum depth of 500mm below the existing soil level over the width of the trunks cross section. Smaller roots spreading out from the main stump will be left undisturbed in the soil. The resulting soil/chip mixture will be left tidily at the position of the original stump, unless otherwise stated.
